Heartspring is seeking an innovative and strategic leader who embodies the organizational values of excellence, possibility, leadership, service, celebration, and integrity in the role of Chief Development Officer. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Development Officer (CDO) will lead staff and volunteers to institutionalize philanthropy and fund development within the organization.
As a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), the CDO will foster a culture of philanthropy within the organization, assuring that the organization’s corporate culture, systems, and procedures support fund development and vice versa. The CDO will develop and ensure the implementation of strategies and plans to identify, cultivate, and retain donors to support the organization, including strategizing and leading a capital campaign in partnership with the CEO. The CDO will ensure the development and maintenance of appropriate systems for fund development, including but not limited to, volunteer and donor management, research and cultivation, gift processing and recognition. The role will also develop and maintain appropriate corporate policies regarding fund development, along with systems of accountability and compliance standards for donors and funding sources.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of nonprofit development experience, with a strong track record of raising seven-figure gifts annually and experience in capital campaigns in excess of $5M. A bachelor's degree is required and a master’s degree (MBA/MPA) and/or CFRE certification is preferred. Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills are needed for success in this position.
