BRYANT GROUP Founder and President Chris Bryant is the recognized leader in the recruitment of advancement, development and fundraising professionals. No one in the world has been specializing in this arena longer.
Chris began his search career as vice president of the executive search division of an international fundraising and campaign management consulting firm. In 1988, he co-founded AST/BRYANT, a firm that became the industry leader in philanthropy recruitment. BRYANT GROUP is the successor firm, established in 2002.
Prior to becoming an executive recruiter, Chris enjoyed a highly successful career as a development and advancement professional and senior executive in higher education and healthcare. He served on the development staffs at the University of Southern California and the University of California, Los Angeles, and served as Vice President and Campaign Supervising Officer for an international fund raising consulting and campaign management firm.
Chris has served in volunteer leadership positions with the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP) and is a Founding Member of the Industry Advisory Committee for the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). He is often recruited to the faculty of regional, national and international conferences and seminars hosted by AFP, AHP and CASE. He has served his alma mater as a member of the Annual Giving Committee of the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California and as a Mentor to USC’s MBA and undergraduate business students. Chris also is the founder of the Knights of the Round Table, a volunteer and philanthropic support organization for a public high school in his community.
Sally Bryant DeChenne

Sally Bryant DeChenne began her advancement career in 1989 and her executive search career in 2007. She brings 25 years of experience in advancement management, advancement consulting and recruiting, as well as achievements from the corporate sales arena and success in other entrepreneurial activities.
Ms. Bryant DeChenne began her advancement career in 1989 at Washington State University, and went on to management in health care and private higher education, including serving at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington and as Dean of Advancement at Marymount College in Palos Verdes, California.
In 2001, Ms. Bryant DeChenne started a fundraising consulting firm, DeChenne Company/Philanthropy Consulting, where she served clients including the University of Washington School of Dentistry; the University of Southern California School of Education; the University of Idaho; Seattle University; the University of Las Vegas, Nevada Foundation; Rolling Hills Preparatory School and others.
Simultaneously, she founded three real estate development companies with a mission of acquiring and improving housing in educational communities. Ms. Bryant DeChenne’s background also provides a unique perspective of highly successful sales, management and recruiting practices from personally leading a team into the top 1% of a $4 billion global beauty company.
She has served the nonprofit sector as a volunteer as well for the past 25 years, including serving as a Trustee of the Washington State University Foundation and chairing its Committee on President's Associates and serving as a council member for the Community Church of Joy in Rancho Mirage. She has also been an advisory council member for WSU's Honors College and for the University’s Office of Undergraduate Education. She has volunteered as an advisory board member, group leader and promotional video speaker for the Los Angeles Skirball Institute's Intentional Conversation and has served on the Robert H. Williams Diabetes Research Council at the University of Washington.
Consulting Vice President
Susan G. Bowers has over 40 years of extensive and varied non-profit experience throughout California. As a consultant for over 20 years, she has provided more than 50 non-profits with extensive, productive and strategic institutional advancement and fundraising capabilities.
In her work providing campaign consulting, strategic planning and interim executive placements, Susan brings significant hands-on experience from a broadly diverse group of non-profits, including secondary and higher education, healthcare and the arts, as well as a widespread network of professionals and volunteers throughout the field. Her most recent interim assignments included Idyllwild Arts Foundation and Westridge School.
Active in her community, Susan has served as a Cultural Arts Commissioner for the City of Whittier and chaired the Whittier Historical Society Board of Directors and the Whittier Community Foundation. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Lynchburg College in Virginia.

John is a seasoned fundraising professional who began his career in 1989 at California State University, Northridge. He has experience in both public and private universities and has worked in development, alumni relations, and as a consultant.
John was an integral part of the Advancement Department at Marymount California University when The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) awarded the university with the title of Most Improved Overall Fund Raising Program in District VII, topping 100+ other institutions in the district to earn this honor. He has also been the recipient of a CASE Heavy Hitter award, presented only to the top-rated conference speakers.
He enjoys volunteering and has been active in the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, public radio and the Los Angeles Fire Department. John also brings sales and executive experience from the for-profit sector, where he spent nearly a decade as Vice President of an international company based in Los Angeles.
Lee Williams, CFRE
Consulting Vice President
Lee Williams brings 25 years of direct fundraising and campaign leadership experience in both public and private universities. Throughout her career, Lee has held progressively higher development leadership positions and led fundraising teams to acheive multi-million dollar campaigns.
She has served Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgetown University, George Washington University, Mississippi State University, The University of South Florida, and the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. She holds a BS in Secondary Education from Mississippi State University and an MS in Public Relations from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Joseph Zanetta, J.D.
Consulting Vice President
Joseph M. Zanetta is a seasoned non-profit leader with more than 30 years of strategic fundraising and institutional advancement experience in education and medical institutions.
He recently served as CEO of Citrus Valley Health Foundation, a nonprofit integrated community health care system serving one milliion residents. Prior to his service with Citrus Valley, he served as President of Providence Little Company of Mary Foundation. Joe has also served as a development executive at Cornell University, Whittier College, and the University of Southern California.
He enjoys volunteering in a variety of civic, professional, and community organizations, including serving as a member of the Board of Directors for the Log Cabin Republicans, Chair of the Board of Holy Family Services Adoption Agency, and Chair of the Pasadena Enterprise Center.
Joe is a well-known speaker and author on topics related to philanthropy and has been interviewed for articles in the Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, American Benefactor, Dallas Morning News and others. He holds a Bachelor's degree from Cornell University and a JD from Cornell Law School.
Carol comes to BRYANT GROUP from The Bell Law Firm in Norman, Oklahoma where she managed the personal injury department. Her work for years as a legal assistant and database manager, along with her work ethic and professionalism, make her a great asset to the BRYANT GROUP team.
